Award Júlio Maggiolly Novais

Júlio Maggiolly Novais (1943 – 2012)

The Júlio Maggiolly Novais Award was established by the Governing Board of the Portuguese Society of Biotechnology (SPBT) in 2021 with the purpose of honoring, every two years, a renowned national and international Biotechnologist, with an exceptional history of scientific achievements, inspiring generations of professionals in the field of Biotechnology, and making notable contributions to the development of Biotechnology in Portugal.

The first recipient of the Júlio Maggiolly Novais Award was Professor Manuel José Magalhães Mota, Emeritus Professor of the University of Minho.

Award Professor Nicolau van Uden

Nicolau van Uden (1921 – 1991)

The Portuguese Society of Microbiology (SPM) has instituted the Professor Nicolau van Uden Prize to be awarded every two years during the Society’s National Congress to a microbiologist of international and national reputation who has a stellar record of research accomplishments, is known for the mentorship of other researchers in science and whose work has had far-reaching impact in the development of the field of microbiology in Portugal.

The awarded researcher is nominated by the Governing Board of SPM and the prize consists of a personal diploma and the title of SPM Honorary Member.
